Damask rose is the real thing, the rose other roses are measured against. Ours is a Bulgarian absolute, solvent-extracted to hold the full depth of the flower. It takes thousands of petals to fill a small bottle, which is why true rose is among the most precious materials we use.

The Bulgarian harvest
Damask rose for absolute is grown in Bulgaria's Valley of the Roses, the petals picked by hand at dawn when the scent is highest. Rather than steam, it is extracted into an absolute, which holds more of the living flower. It takes thousands of blooms to fill a small bottle.
