Lavender
Soft, herbaceous, clean. Lavender, soft and herbaceous, never medicinal. Sweet but never sugared.
Lavender is the first oil Emily learned to work with, and the one she still builds every sleep formula around. The variety we use is true lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, grown in the high, dry air of Provence. The Mediterranean climate and chalky limestone soils concentrate the linalool, the molecule that carries lavender's calm.
Most commercial lavender on the market is lavandin, a cheaper hybrid with a harsher scent. You can tell the difference in the first thirty seconds of a burn. True lavender opens quietly; lavandin opens loud and fades.
The fields of Provence
Provence has grown the world's finest lavender since the early twentieth century. The dry, high-altitude air and chalky soil concentrate the linalool, the molecule that carries lavender's calm. We use true lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, steam-distilled from the flowering tops, not the harsher lavandin most candles rely on.
