Employee Wellness Workshops: A Guide for Teams in the UK

What a Yougi team workshop involves, which formats suit which groups, where they run, and how to book one that lands.

The best thing you can give a team is an hour where nobody is at their desk and everybody is making something with their hands. That is most of what a wellness workshop is. The rest is the smell of essential oils, and going home with the thing you made.

Yougi runs these for companies at both London studios, at your office, or online with kits posted out beforehand. Emily designs each one. Here is what they involve, and how to think about booking one.

Why a workshop, and not a talk

A talk about wellbeing is quickly forgotten. An hour spent blending oils and pouring a candle is not. The making is the point. It slows the breath, it takes people out of their inbox, and it gives a room of colleagues something to do together that has nothing to do with work. People leave calmer than they arrived, and with something to take home.

Every session is led by the Yougi team, uses 100% natural essential oils, and ends with a finished piece for each person. Nothing synthetic, nothing wasted.

The workshops

Pick the one that suits the group and the room. All run in person, and most can run online.

  • Candle making. The one we are known for. Each person blends essential oils into eco soy wax and pours their own candle.
  • Natural perfume and scent creation. Work through the oil library and build a scent that is yours alone. Good for a group that likes to get particular.
  • Soap making. Choose the oils and the botanicals, melt, pour, and carry home a set of bars.
  • Bath bombs and bath salts. Blend natural ingredients and oils into something for the end of the day. Simple, and popular.
  • Wreath making and festive candles. Seasonal, hands-on and scented. The December dates go first, usually by October.

Two are Emily's signatures: the Aromatherapy Candle Workshop and the Scent Creation Workshop. Both come from years of blending by hand in the studio.

Where, and how many

31 Connaught Street, Marble Arch, W2 takes groups of 8 to 14. 53 Fashion Street, Whitechapel, E1 is the larger room, for 8 to 35. For bigger groups, or a team that cannot travel, the workshop comes to you.

Booking one that lands

  • Keep it hands-on. The making is what people remember, so choose an activity everyone actually does.
  • Keep it optional. A workshop people chose to join has a better feeling in the room than one they were told to attend.
  • Book early for December. Four weeks' notice is comfortable, two is possible, and the festive Saturdays are the first to go.

If you are planning something for your team, the private events page has the formats, prices and a few examples, or write to info@yougilondon.com and we will put something together for you.
