Natural Fragrances That Take You Somewhere

Scent is the fastest way out of the room you're in. Before a thought forms, a smell has already moved you: to a garden, a coastline, a kitchen you knew as a child. It skips the reasoning part of the brain and goes straight to memory. This is why one note can put you somewhere else entirely, and why every Yougi blend starts with a place.

Here are a few of ours, and where they go.

A lavender field, last light. Soothe is lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, with rose geranium and a little eucalyptus to open the breath. It is the end of a warm day in the Cotswolds, the rows still holding the heat. Lit in the evening, it settles the shoulders and quiets the jaw.

Warm stone, bare feet. Happy is sweet orange, bergamot and may chang. Orange blossom catches in your hair and the stone is warm underfoot, somewhere near the Mediterranean in July. Emily blends it for the mornings that need lifting.

A garden after dark. Moonlight Bloom is jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla. The jasmine opens only once the sun has gone, held steady by the sandalwood beneath.

Under the trees. Forest Bathing takes its name from shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of walking among trees. Cedar, pine and a green coolness that grounds you where you stand.

None of this is done with synthetic fragrance. Every scent is 100% essential oils, blended by hand on Connaught Street, one batch at a time. That matters here. A natural oil carries the actual plant, and the place it grew, so what reaches you is the real thing rather than an idea of it.

If you want to go further than a room, the essential oils reach where a candle can't: a drop on the wrist, in the bath, on a tissue tucked into a suitcase. And if you would rather have the whole range in front of you, the candles are here.

Scent is the one souvenir you can pack before you leave. Two new perfumes follow in September, both built the same way, both tied to a place. The waitlist hears first.
