The blend

Apothecary Garden is green and just-cut, the smell of a glasshouse at first light. Basil, Ocimum basilicum, with spearmint and lemon verbena, lifted by a thread of citrus: cool, herbal, awake. Emily made it in summer, the morning the basil comes in, from a memory of a potting shed in a Suffolk garden, the panes misted and the rosemary heavy with dew. Soy wax. Cotton wick. Hand-poured. Around 50 hours, 20 for the mini and 80 for the three-wick.

The head clears.

The oils

Three essential oils. Every one named.

Single-origin, sourced from the grower who knows them best. No carriers, no extenders, no synthetic fragrance.

The craft

Poured at Connaught Street. One batch at a time.

Every candle is hand-poured in small batches at our London workshop. Emily blends every scent and makes each batch by hand. The candles are then poured, labelled and finished by hand.

The ritual

How to burn Apothecary Garden Candle.

A candle is only as good as the way it's burned. Four steps, the same for every Yougi vessel.

  1. Trim the wick.

Before every burn, trim to a centimetre. A shorter wick prevents soot and smoke, and the flame runs clean.

  2. Let the wax pool.

On the first burn, let the wax reach the edge of the vessel before you put it out. Two to four hours. This prevents tunnelling and protects your hours of burn.

  3. Burn in sessions.

Two to four hours at a time. Let it rest between burns: the scent needs the pause.

  4. Retire gracefully.

When the wax falls below a centimetre, stop burning. Send us the empty vessel and we'll refill it for thirty percent less than a new candle.
